Description
- The objective of this course is to provide an introduction to power electronics. The principles of static converter structures are covered: uncontrolled and controlled rectification, choppers and inverters. The course is taught using the LTSpice simulation tool.
At the end of this course, students will have knowledge of :
- power electronic components: power diodes, thyristors and power transistors.
- analysis of static converter operation.
- the dimensioning of power components in compliance with electrical constraints.
- Handling of a motorisation specification for a mobile robot

Learning Outcomes AAv (AAv)
AAv1 [heures:10,B1, B3] : At the end of semester S6, the student will be able to determine the instantaneous power, average power consumed and energy stored in a given linear circuit (or described by a statement) including resistive, capacitive and inductive effects.
AAv2 [heures:15, B1, B3] : At the end of semester S6, the student will be able, in a controlled or uncontrolled rectifier circuit: - to determine the waveforms of the electrical quantities voltage/current and power from a given diagram*. - identify the electrical stresses of the diode (or thyristor) in order to size it.
AAv3 [heures:15, B1,B3] : At the end of semester S6, the student will be able, in a chopper, step-down or step-up circuit, to determine the waveforms of the voltage/current and power electrical quantities from a given diagram*. - identify the electrical constraints of the transistor and diode in order to size them.
Assessment methods
One long continuous assessment (coefficient 1) and the average of several short continuous assessments in CTD (coefficient 1) and Lab (coefficient 1).
