Description

This course is primarily based on a series of tutorials aimed at introducing the vocabulary and fundamental principles of network and system administration.
It helps in understanding how a deployed IT solution interacts with its hardware or virtualised environment.
These tutorials will take place in a UNIX environment and will cover the following topics:

  • basic commands and scripting,
  • storage management,
  • how a local network works (addresses, ports, protocols),
  • programming with common network protocols,
  • routing, firewalls, network architecture,
  • common network infrastructure services,
  • user and permissions management,
  • encryption, authentication and security,
  • basic use of containers,
  • programming a containerised application,
  • minimising the size of containerised application images,
  • container orchestration platform.

Beyond these practical aspects, documents addressing the issue of resources used by the deployment of IT solutions will also be studied.

Learning Outcomes AAv (AAv)

  • AAv1 [heures: 22.5, D1, D2, D3, D4]: at the end of this course, a student will be able to recognise the vocabulary and explain the fundamental principles in the field of network and system administration.

  • AAv2 [heures: 22.5, D1, D2, D3, D4]: at the end of this course, a student will be able to apply basic operations in the field of network and system administration.

  • AAv3 [heures: 7.5, A2]: at the end of this course, a student will be able to identify elements related to the resources used by IT solutions.

Assessment methods

  • Several comprehension quizzes based on the completed tutorials will be used to assess AAv1.
  • Attendance records for the tutorials and monitoring of engagement in the proposed activities will be used to assess AAv2.
  • A written report analysing the assigned documents will be used to assess AAv3.
